矮晚柚是四川省绵阳市福田植物品种改良研究所于70年代初期从台湾晚白柚中发现的矮化芽变体,经过20余年的培育、选择而成的矮化柚子新品种。该品种植株特矮,20余年的成龄树株高、冠径都不足1.5米,每亩可栽植200～250株,定植后两年始花,3年投产,5年进入盛果期。盛果期单株一般可结果10～20个,最多可达40个以上,单果重1.5～2公斤,最大的可达2.5公斤以上。矮晚柚还特晚熟,在四川省一月中、下旬成熟,鲜果刚好赶上春节上市,因而售价高、效益好。该品种不仅可赶上春节出售鲜果,同时较其它柚子品种耐贮存,即使贮存到6月份,果肉也不变软,仍保持鲜果时的风味
