周桂笙是清末民初的一位翻译家,声名虽不及严复、林纾等人显赫,也为中国近代文化发展作出了重大贡献。他不仅关注儿童文学翻译,把侦探小说输入中国,最先使用白话进行翻译,还借鉴西方小说的叙事模式。在介绍翻译家周桂笙的生平和翻译目的的基础上,对其贡献进行归纳,以期对之有全面而深入的认识。
Zhou Guisheng, a translator from late Qing Dynasty and early Republic to early Republic of China, made a significant contribution to the development of Chinese modern culture although his name was not as prominent as Yan Fu and Lin Shu. He not only focuses on the translation of children’s literature, enters the detective novels into China, first translates them into vernacular Chinese, and draws lessons from the narrative patterns of Western novels. On the basis of introducing the translator Zhou Guisheng’s life and the purpose of translation, this paper summarizes its contribution, in order to have a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of it.
