鸦片战争后,中国沿海一带的通商口岸,出现了许多外国人主办的外文报纸.从十九世记四十年代到二十世纪初叶,这一类报纸的总数在一百二十种以上.以英商、美商、日商的居多,德商、法商、俄商的也有一些.其中主要的有以下几种:孖剌报 (Daily Press), (1845-?), 香港.德臣报 (China Mail), (1857—195?), 香港①.香港电讯报 (Hongkong Telegraph), (1881-?), 香港.南华早报 (South China Morning Post).
