电视电影于1999年落户中央电视台电影频道,到现在为止,已经生产数百部作品。“电视电影工程”启动以后,提升了国产影片的播出比例,起到了保护民族电影的作用。英国学者约翰·希尔认为,“电影和电视的联盟不仅为欧洲国家提供了最经济的电影生存的形式,也最可能是在文化上提供一种不同于好莱坞规范的另类选择。”曾执导过电视电影《阿桃》、《王勃之死》的郑大圣认为,一个国家本土电影遭受很大的冲击时,电视电影将会异军突起,电视电影将是民族电影最后的一道屏障。电视电影拍摄成本较低,生产周期较短,有较为稳定的传播渠道,没有票房压力,可以较少地考虑商业性,更多地追求艺术性、探索性、实验性、创新性。这就为影视界新人提供了一个施展艺术才华的舞台。
