1 The Origin of IMT-2000 In recent years, China’s wireless mobile communications has grown at an alarming rate of nearly double every year (with an average annual growth rate of cellular mobile phones by 237% in recent five years), rapidly becoming one of the most advanced countries in the world in application level. By the end of 2000, the number of mobile phone users in China had reached 50 million and the number of paging users exceeded 60 million. China has become the largest mobile communications country with the largest number of paging subscribers and the largest GSM network.
