明代学者吕坤,其书房题为“远美轩”。何故取此名?他解释说:“天地间之祸人者,莫如‘多’(多欲)。令人易多者,莫如‘美’(美物诱惑),美色令人多欲,美官令人多求,美室令人多居,美田令人多置……皆祸美也……予有一室,题之曰‘远美轩’,而匾其中曰‘冷淡’。非不爱美,惧祸之及也。夫鱼见饵不见钩,虎见羊不见阱,猩猩见酒不见人。非不见也,迷于所美,而不暇顾也。此心一冷则热闹之景不能入,一淡则艳冶之物不能动。夫能知困穷、抑郁、贫贱、坎坷之为祥,则可与言道矣。”吕坤官至刑部侍郎,刚正不阿,为官清廉,甘于淡泊,政绩颇佳。
