1999年5月1日,北京天安门广场上游人如织。没有人留意到一位普通的劳动者正为能来到从小就神往的祖国首都而激动不已。她就是曾被评为甘肃省“十杰青年”、长庆石油勘探局优秀共产党员的长庆石油勘探局油建工程处三大队七中队焊工班班长刘瑛。刘瑛这次赴京,是接受中国石油天然气集团公司首届“十杰青年”称号的。一1985年12月,19岁的刘瑛经招工考试,被分配到油建处三大队铆焊厂,成为一名电焊工。勤快好学,是职工们对这位留着短发,总爱笑的胖乎乎的姑娘的评价。焊工有两项基本功很重要:蹲功和臂功。为了练蹲功,刘瑛平时便注意养成蹲的习惯,回到家里,洗衣服、吃饭也是蹲着。刚开始,蹲不多久两腿就又麻又困,站起来都困难。好不容易站起来,又头晕目眩,东摇西摆。但功夫不负有心人,现在,即使蹲上半天,刘瑛也能做到纹丝不动,双脚像焊到地上一样。为练臂功,刘瑛把胳膊伸直,长时间悬空,慢慢又开始往胳膊上放砖块,并逐渐由一块砖加到两块砖、三块砖。跟师傅学电焊,她一天焊100多个焊口。凭着一股子学啥就要学会、干啥就要干好的精神,刘瑛打下了坚实的焊工技术基础。焊工的学徒期是两年,刘瑛只当了一年多学徒,便单独顶岗工作了。1995年
