口服五菟颗粒能使大鼠脑组织中的三磷酸腺苷（ＡＴＰ），二磷酸腺苷（ＡＤＰ）及尼克酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸（ＮＡＤ＋）含量升高，一磷酸腺苷（ＡＭＰ）含量降低，预防性给药能使大鼠脑缺血时海马细胞外液中兴奋性氨基酸（ＥＡＡ）———谷氨酸（Ｇｌｕ）和天门冬氨酸（ＡＳＰ）含量降低；能使小鼠单居激怒分明显减少；并能改善小鼠记忆。
