我县是全省重点产棉县之一。近几年来植棉面积都在十六万亩左右,占耕地面积50%以上。在六十年代,由于搞好了提纯复壮工作,推广自育的棉花良种“彭泽四号”,六三、六五两年全县亩产皮棉就突破了百斤关。“文化革命”十年浩劫,棉种工作受到很大破坏,存在“重换轻选”、“重调轻繁”、“重引轻育”的错误倾向,经常大调大运,造成我县棉种“多、乱、杂”,使棉花产量、品质受到很大的影响。棉地内杂株逐年增加;棉铃越来越小,与原种比较,铃重减轻0.9—1.5克,纤维短1.5—2毫米,全县平均衣分只有34%,亩产皮棉始终在八、九十斤之间徘徊。粉碎“四人帮”以后,我们狠抓了良种基地建设,年年坚持群
