2009年出版的《朗文当代英语词典》第5版(Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English,Fifth Edition,简称为LDOCE5),其资料新颖丰富,抓紧时代脉动。我借助LDOCE5的光盘来耙梳里面的例证语料,研究现在英语词典里的中国印象。发现135条与中国有关的例证中,词典单纯陈述事实,鲜少隐含以英美为中心的价值判断,反映出LDOCE5的现代性与客观性。
The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English (Fifth Edition, LDOCE5), published in 2009, is novel and rich in information, and it is time for a rush of the times. I use the LDOCE5 CD to interrogate the example language and study the Chinese impressions in the current English dictionary. Of the 135 examples related to China, the dictionary simply states the facts, and few implicitly value judgments centered on Britain and the United States, reflecting the modernity and objectivity of LDOCE5.
