拜金主义是英国历史进入维多利亚时代以来出现的最本质的社会特征。金钱对人类的情感产生了不可估量的作用,从而对情感的压抑和对金钱的追逐成为众多维多利亚小说家思索的问题和写作的主题。作为19世纪最重要的英国维多利亚小说家之一的安东尼.特罗洛普也在这一背景下做出了对情感困境的思索。基于男性是其关注的最重要的对象之一,因此作家在自己的小说世界中建构了独特的男性情感模式,以期解决当时英国社会男性的生存境遇,同时引起人们对情感本质的思考。
Money worship is the most essential social feature that has emerged since the British history entered the Victorian era. Money has an immeasurable effect on human emotions, so the suppression of emotions and the pursuit of money have become the topics that many Victorian novelists think and write. Anthony Trollop, one of the most important British Victorian novelists in the 19th century, also made a pondering over the emotional predicament in this context. Based on the fact that men are one of the most important objects of their concern, writers have constructed a unique model of male emotions in the world of their own novels in order to solve the living conditions of men in British society at that time, and at the same time arouse people’s thinking on the nature of emotions.
