美国国家档案馆(The National Archives andRecords Adwinistration,以下简称NARA)是保存美国联邦政府档案的场所。除了在美国首都华盛顿宪法大街的老馆及在马里兰州的新馆外,还下辖遍布全国的15个文件中心(Records Centers)、13个地区档案馆(Regional Archives)、9个总统图书馆(PresidentialLibrary)和2个总统资料部(Presidential MaterialsProject)。这些机构庋藏着30亿份文件原稿,200万张地图,超过7000万张的照片,1亿2千万英尺的电影胶片,20万盒录音、录像资料。为了能让这些丰富的馆藏为社会所利用,NARA每年都要出版一些史料及工具书,以方便读者。现向大家介绍几本: 1.《从密西西比至西部,1840年——1912年:有关海外领地的联邦文件指南》。上世纪初的美国领土远不及现在辽阔,1804年,美国从拿破仑手中购得了原是法国殖民地的路易斯安娜,即今密西西比河沿岸地区,
The National Archives and Records Adwinistration (NARA) is the site where archives of the U.S. federal government are preserved. In addition to the Old Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, and the new Maryland campus, it also hosts 15 Records Centers, 13 Regional Archives and 9 Presidential Libraries Presidential Library and 2 Presidential Materials Projects. These agencies contain 3 billion document manuscripts, 2 million maps, over 70 million photos, 120 million motion picture films, 200,000 recordings and videos. In order for these rich collections to be used by the society, NARA publishes some historical materials and reference books every year to facilitate readers. Here are a few: 1. From Mississippi to the West, 1840 - 1912: A Guide to Federal Documents Concerning Overseas Territories. At the beginning of the last century, the territory of the United States was much less than it is now. In 1804, the United States bought Napoleon’s Louisiana, formerly a French colony, now the area along the Mississippi River.
