程颐在批判汉唐经学家滞心于训诂章句之末而无所用的基础上,以己意解《论语》,以义理解《论语》,从而把儒家经典与理学之义理结合起来,开创了《论语》学发展的新局面,促进了《论语》解经方法的转变和理学思想的发展。在《论语》诠释中,程颐提出了一系列的理学命题和范畴,这不仅为后来儒者深化这些范畴和命题打下了基础,同时对理学体系的建构也作出了贡献。
