A survey by MasterCard International in 12 Asia-Pacific countries shows that one of three Asians, including most of whom are asked questions about Singapore, views Hong Kong as the preferred destination for shopping in the Asia Pacific region. In 1995, the statistics of the Hong Kong Tourist Association show that tourists spend nearly HK $ 40 billion in Hong Kong. On average, each tourist consumes 7,140 Hong Kong Dollars, of which 4,400 Hong Kong Dollars are spent on shopping, that is, a total of 22 billion Hong Kong Dollars spent on shopping.
