Culex tritaeniorhynchus is an important transmission vector for Japanese encephalitis and West Nile virus in Southeast Asia. The eruption of Japanese encephalitis has taken place in many parts of India and the virus has been isolated from Japanese encephalitis, which has been shown to be the major vehicle.
