Three gas fields have been in operation about 15 miles southeast of Jackson, Mississippi, since 1972, safely and continuously producing high-pressure sulfur gas. The completion of gas fields in these gas fields is Smackover, with a depth of 19,700 to 2,250 feet. The initial bottom hole pressure fluctuations ranged from 1750 to 22000 psi, with a bottom hole temperature of 365-385 ° F. The well fluid contains 28-46% hydrogen sulfide, 3-8% carbon dioxide, 51-69% methane and no condensate. Approximately 6 to 8 barrels of water per 1,000 cubic feet of gas. The downhole conditions and fluid composition of these gas wells create a hostile environment and therefore, to safely develop these reserves, there is a great price to pay for new processes. This paper reviews the major problems encountered in the discovery of high-pressure, sour gas over the past 10 years, such as metallurgy issues, gas well design, corrosion control, quality control and safety, and explored solutions.
