Earthquake liquefaction can cause a series of damages that are already well known: foundation failure caused by a decrease in foundation bearing capacity; liquefaction causes the underground light structure to float; the earth retaining structure is destroyed due to an increase in earth pressure; and the soil slope is reduced due to the decrease in the shear strength of soil. Dams produce landslides, etc. However, in recent years, there has been a deeper understanding of ground sliding and permanent deformation (also known as Lateral Spreaed) caused by extensive liquefaction. In the past, this lack of research on liquefaction grounds was mainly due to the lack of quantitative data on ground deformation, and only ground cracks were observed.
