胡杨是落叶乔木,树干通直,皮呈灰褐色,树皮光滑,黄褐色,有条稜,呈圆筒形或略呈方形。在良好的生境条件下,20年生的胡杨,树高可达10-14米,胸径15-30厘米。胡杨分布地区甚为广泛,在欧洲、亚洲以及北非的沙漠、干旱荒漠和半荒漠地带均有分布。我国内蒙古、甘肃的额济纳河流域、新疆的塔里木盆地和准噶尔盆地、河北、山西、宁夏、陕西及东北地区都有胡杨生长,其中新疆地区分布面积最大,数量最多,尤其是在南
