ViaSat announced on April 24, 2014 that the U.S. federal court ruled that Space Systems / Lara (SS / L) Company infringed upon satellite technology patents developed by ViaSat and breached the confidentiality agreement for the manufacturing contracts between the two parties. ViaSat will receive a total of 283 million U.S. dollars Patent infringement compensation. The verdict was significantly lower than originally anticipated by ViaSat, and SS / L and its former parent, Laura Space and Communications, did not yet know the full cost of the verdict. However, SS / L said that it would appeal the ruling. It refuted ViaSat’s so-called invention patent and was not a new invention. It also believed that the infringement decision would be reversed.
