1982年,我区棉花生产,在连续三年大幅度增产的基础上,又获得创历史纪录的大丰收。全区64万亩植棉面积,总产皮棉70万担,平均单产109.4斤,比历史最高的1981年总产增长30.5％,单产增长22.9％,实现了百斤皮棉地区。生产水平较高的九江县,1982年平均亩产达到142斤;彭泽县平均亩产135斤。以丘陵红壤植棉为主的都昌、瑞昌、永修县,第一次闯过了百斤关,湖口、星子也都实现了超历史大面积、大幅度增产,单产接近或超过90斤。全区平均亩产皮棉百斤以上的公社有54个,贡献千斤以上皮棉的农户有14,500户。
