炳灵寺石窟位于永靖县境刘家峡大坝西35公里处姊妹峰身后的大寺沟中。“炳灵”为藏语“十万佛”之意。炳灵寺石窟开凿于十六国时期。唐代称为灵岩寺。宋、元以来,灵岩、炳灵二名共用,直到清代才专名炳灵寺。经过历代的不断增修,形成分布在上寺、洞沟和下寺3处的巨大石窟群。现存窟、龛184个,内有石雕像694身,泥塑像82身,浮雕石塔26座,壁画900多平方米,为全
