There is no doubt that paper books have always dominated global information dissemination. However, the rise and introduction of e-books driven by technology has sparked a debate about the usefulness of paper books. This article reviews the process of the emergence and rise of e-books in the African book industry, and expounds the leverage that e-books exemplify in competition. Although e-books have been widely disseminated and used, factors such as cost, technical know-how and infrastructure are still not widely available in Africa. The urgent problems to be solved by the government are the construction of infrastructure and the establishment of policies and regulations related to the provision of information services. This paper argues that the emergence and rise of e-books will not lead to the demise of paper books, but rather complement each other and achieve common prosperity. E-books can not replace paper books, the two will complement each other for a long time.
