梁子湖是湖北省第二大湖泊,现有放流水面42万亩,是鄂州市重要的水产品商品基地。地处梁子湖畔的长岭镇,历来是该湖主要的渔港和水产品集散地。近几年来,长岭镇合理配置这一经济资源要素,按照“政府搭台,兴办鱼行,能人唱戏,活跃市场”的指导思想,发展专业鱼行18家,从业人员150余人,年批发、零售水产品1500多吨,商品购销范围幅射到鄂东地区和华东、华北部分省市。成为鄂州市重要的初级水产品批发市场。批发市场的兴办,每年为长岭镇创造了40％的农业特产税和30％的工商所得税。1995年鱼行从业人员年纯收入达到1.2万元,是该镇同期人均纯收入的8.5倍。长岭镇在发展专业鱼行中具有如下特点:
