慈溪县传统的棉田耕作制度是,冬作春粮(大小麦、蚕豆)与黄花苜蓿间作,夏作棉花与春粮套种的两熟栽培制度。六十年代间作绿肥面积占棉田总面积的85%左右。棉花产量高且稳定,平均皮棉亩产113.7斤。七十年代以来,绿肥面积不断减少。1982年统计,全县棉田绿肥面积6.63万亩,只占棉田总面积的16.64%,亩产鲜草量在千斤以下,棉田有机质肥料严重不足。绿肥面积迟
