After four days of fierce debate, the third WTO Ministerial Meeting failed to reach an agreement to launch a new round of global multilateral trade negotiations due to serious disagreements. They broke up in the United States in Seattle late on December 3, 1999. WTO spokesman Rockwell said the suspension of the talks was scheduled to resume in 2000 in Geneva.
