运-12型飞机是我国哈尔滨飞机制造厂在运-11型飞机的基础上进行深入改进的发展机型。该机型于1980年初开始研制,1985年开始批量生产投入使用。运-12飞机系列有:运-12Ⅰ型、运-12Ⅱ型、运-12Ⅲ型、运-12Ⅳ型和运-12E型。该机型操作简单、故障少、安全系数高、易维护。外销非洲、澳洲、南美洲、亚洲、北美洲的18个国家,国内使用率日益增加。
