New research shows that a three-dimensional material may mimic the behavior of cells in the tissue in the future. Tissue-like materials developed by Gabriel Villar and colleagues have a soft, rubbery texture and resemble the texture of the brain and adipose tissue. The goal of the researchers is ultimately to build materials that can be used in medical applications such as drug controlled release. In the long run, they want to integrate this technology with living tissue to make it possible to repair or strengthen the failing organ. This tissue-like material is made with a three-dimensional printer that dispenses a single droplet containing all the necessary chemicals and biochemicals. The printed web is then assembled on a pallet that will move
