中亚地区油气资源丰富,据美国能源署的估计,哈萨克斯坦的石油储量130亿吨,天然气6万亿立方米;土库曼斯坦的石油储量63亿吨;乌兹别克斯坦石油储量3亿吨,天然气储量2万亿立方米。中亚—里海地区的油气资源丰富,且由于人口稀少、工业在国民经济中所占比重较低等原因,对能源需求不大,出口潜力巨大。在当今世界油气需求不断攀升的情况下,中亚地区油气资源对于国际经济的重要战略意义更加凸显。
