历史与新闻具有天然的血缘关系,两者有很多相同、相似之处。主要包括:有相同的起源,都要求记录事实,都追求真实和公正,有相近的功能。作为历史分支的地方志,可以从新闻中得到很多借鉴和帮助。主要包括:在新闻中查找史料,借鉴资料搜集方法,借鉴文稿编写技法。与此同时,也要认识到历史(地方志)与新闻存在本质不同,志书编纂对新闻的借鉴是有限度的,应避免将两者作简单类比。
