Objective To understand the pollution status of heavy metals in vegetables of a certain department of People’s Liberation Army. Methods The vegetable samples were processed by microwave digestion system. The contents of lead, arsenic and mercury were determined by atomic fluorescence spectrometry and compared with national standards. Results In 44 samples, the detection rate of lead was 86.4% and the over standard rate was 6.8%. The detection rate of arsenic was 84.1% and the over standard rate was 27.3%. The mercury detection rate was 79.5% and the over standard rate was 11.4%. Conclusion The lead and mercury in vegetables in some canteens of the People’s Liberation Army are less polluted and the arsenic is more polluted.
