Two years ago, I wrote an essay titled “A Glimpse of New Words and Phrases” in a new glossary collected during the reading of documents and newspaper articles, published in the second issue of the 1994 Hubei Archives. Since then, I have seen a few news articles about the very rich new words developed in the political, economic, cultural and news fields since the reform and opening up of our socialist political and economic system to China’s experts in civics. A great deal of attention has been drawn to the work of collecting, sorting out, researching, standardizing and publishing new words in specialized agencies.
