Objective To investigate the prevalence of human herpesvirus (HPV) and human papillomavirus (HPV) in patients with inverted papilloma of the nose and paranasal sinuses, and to understand the influence of EBV and HPV in inverted papilloma of the nose and paranasal sinuses . Methods From June 2013 to June 2015, 40 patients with inverted papilloma of the nose and sinus were selected as the study objects. The EBVs of paraffin-embedded tissues of inverted papilloma of the nose and sinus were detected by polymerase chain reaction And HPV; 40 cases of nasal and sinus inverted papilloma were selected as the experimental group, 10 cases of papilloma malignant transformation, 30 cases of nasal and sinus inverted papilloma; and the other 20 cases of patients with nasal polyps selected as control group. Results The positive rate of HPV in the test group was 67.5%, the positive rate of HPV in the 17 cases was 42.5%, which were significantly higher than those in the control group (10.0% vs 5.0%, P < 0.05). In the test group, 14 cases of HPV infection alone, 4 cases of EBV infection, 8 cases of HPV and EBV infection were found in 30 cases of papilloma of nasal and sinuses. In 5 cases of 10 cases of papilloma malignant transformation , 4 cases of pure EBV infection and 1 case of mixed infection of HPV and EBV. The prevalence of HPV infection was 64.7% and 65.2% in patients with recurrent or non-recurrent disease, respectively. The EBV infection rates were 47.1% and 8.7% The difference was statistically significant in patients without recurrence (P <0.05). Conclusion There are EBV and HPV infection in patients with nasal and sinus inverted papilloma, and the virus and nasal and sinus inverted papilloma are closely related, which should be paid enough attention in clinic.
