The world market for cellular systems is rapidly growing. At present, the development of wireless personal communication products and services in the world is attracting worldwide attention. In 1993, cellular services were already available in 117 countries around the world; by 1995, cellular systems are expected to be available in 130 countries worldwide. According to forecasts by the Economic and Management International Corporation (EMCI), the United States accounted for more than 50% of the world’s cellular phone market in 1993, but its share will fall to about one-third of the world’s cellular phone market by 1999. In addition, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 19% of the world’s cellular phone market in 1993, and its share in the Asia-Pacific region will rise to 31% in 1999; in the meantime, the share of Western Europe in the world cellular phone market, with a 26% share, remained essentially unchanged. With about 11 million cellular phone users in the United States nowadays, it is the largest cellular phone market in the world. Followed by Japan, about 182.1 million users, the third is the United Kingdom, about 1.456 million users.
