Sartre, an existential philosopher in France, was active in the twentieth century, yet its influence still exists in the twenty-first century. Deeply influenced by Husserl’s phenomenology, he expounded the concept of freedom from the perspective of ontology. With his tenacious fighting spirit and critical spirit, he practiced his “intervention ” theory in real life. Sartre’s literary thought is mainly embodied in the book What is Literature, while others include commentary articles and prefaces to specific writers and works, which is published in the country as a “Sarthean essay.” Through the two works, combined with Sartre’s philosophical thought, this article analyzes the freedom thought in Sartre’s literary theory.
