According to the statistics of 1979, about 1/4 of Australians are under 15 years of age and about 17% are between 15 and 25 years of age. In the latter age group, women make up a small majority. The main subject of this article is the age group of 15 to 25 years old. Australia today has set up the federal “Department of Education and Youth Affairs”, which is equivalent to a ministry in China. In 1986, a woman who was Minister of Education and Youth Affairs was a Senator Susan Ryan. Compulsory education is available to people between the ages of 6 and 15. In 1978 about 3/5 of the 16-year-olds and 1/3 of the 17-year-olds were still in school. According to 1982 statistics,
