徐复祚,明代著名戏曲家、戏曲理论家,其博学工文,尤擅词曲,他现存唯一杂剧《一文钱》是一部优秀的讽刺戏剧。因自身坎坷的生活经历,徐复祚笃信佛教,他对佛教诸法本空、破除悭贪、众生平等的佛理思想参悟通透,笔下的人间百态莫不浸染佛性色彩;他基于对社会现实的热切关怀,讽刺贪婪现实、揭露人性异化、启迪人们以通脱态度对待现实人生,笔下的世俗风情蒙上了一层现实主义色彩;同时,徐复祚颇具文人才士的风流雅致,《一文钱》语言清丽隽雅、通俗易懂,结构设置切合缜密、不落俗套,音乐曲调浑融一体,刚柔并济,笔下的世俗世界常常带有其文人特性的审美风情。
