在传统观念里,宋代理学家对佛教一直采取势不两立的反对态度。出于一种笼统的、通盘的考虑,这种论断完全正确。然而,观察宋代各个时期理学家对待佛教的态度,便可知事实上宋代理学家对佛教的态度有一个曲折的转变过程。而且,在两宋之交,理学家们对佛教的态度出现了与传统印象截然不同的趋向。理学家的这种态度转变是伴随着理学自身的发展而不断进行的,考察这一转变过程亦可考量理学自身的发展历程。
In the traditional view, the Song Dynasty neologists have always been opposed to Buddhism. For a general, general consideration, this assertion is entirely correct. However, when observing the attitude of Confucians towards Buddhism in different periods of the Song Dynasty, we can see that in fact there was a twists and turns in the attitude toward Buddhism by Song Dynasty physicists. Moreover, at the turn of the two Song dynasties, the attitude toward Buddhism of the rationalists appeared quite different from the traditional impression. This change of attitude of the Neo-Confucianism is accompanied by the continuous development of Neo-Confucianism itself. It is also possible to consider the course of development of Neo-Confucianism by examining this process of change.
