During the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the Soviet Union first and widely applied a new method of hydraulic transport of core drilling, a method of drilling that continuously transported cores to the surface using ascending flush flow in the central bore of double-walled drill stems. The drilling was achieved with the КГК-100 complete plant, which was designed by the All-Soviet Geological Technology Design Bureau and mass-produced by the consortium’s factory. By the beginning of 1982 nearly 50 sets of equipment had been put into use. The drilling workload of hydraulically transported cores increased more than 20-fold in five years and exceeded the tasks identified in the national economic plan each year (Table 1).
