该著以“道德本体”“道德本样”和“道德本真”三个逻辑递进的学术理念为切入点,探讨并回答了“道德是什么”的问题;进而抓住极具代表性的“真正的经济”“帕累托佳境”和“囚徒困境”等经济命题或经济典故,论证并说明经济与道德是一种社会现象的两个方面,是不可分割的经济活动,即凡有经济必有道德;在此基础上提出并论证了道德资本概念。作者认为,道德资本是指作为生产性资源的道德理念、道德规范、价值取向及其善行习俗、崇德行为等投(进)入生产并促进价值增殖的能力与价值。道德资本概念中的“资本”并非马克思使用和论述的经典资本概念,
