The European Geotraverse (EGT) is an international multidisciplinary project focused on a lithospheric section extending from the northernmost tip of Navarre in Skan to North Africa, north and south, with a length of 4000 km, The width is changing. The section is composed of three contiguous sections (the northern, middle and southern sections), which consist of a series of continuously changing zones from the Precambrian region of the Baltic Shield to the present active western Mediterranean Rock series. The main purpose of the EGT program is to obtain a good three-dimensional image of the structure, status and composition of the continental lithosphere as a basis for understanding the evolution and dynamics of continental lithosphere. All of the twelve major programs that comprise the Joint Program of the EGT have now been implemented, and several of them are nearing completion.
