Most sexually transmitted disease (STD) screening tests require that the sample be a urethral swab, but invasive sampling often leads to trauma leaving the patient unwilling to seek treatment. The authors studied the feasibility of using a single urine sample for the specific diagnosis of gonococcal and chlamydial infections. 212 subjects were all male, no antibiotics were used within 2 months before the test, and both clinical and microscopic urethritis symptoms. Before using the initial urine for routine diagnosis of Chlamydia, patients are required to stay for 3 hours. Approximately 20ml of urine samples were collected from each patient.
