《红楼梦》是一部“都云作者痴,谁解其中味”的奇书,不仅百看不厌,而且越读越觉得新鲜。《红楼梦》中塑造了许多聪明能干的女子形象,如黛玉的绝顶聪明、智慧过人又多愁善感;宝钗的端庄自重,望之如春花而别具风流;王熙凤的“明是一盆火,暗是一把刀”;妙玉的天姿出众、高傲自赏、蔑视世俗权贵;湘云的明朗绮丽、洒脱豪放、天真可爱……但《红楼梦》在描写女子时,不像其他中国旧小说,描写美貌女子的三寸金莲,如终小心谨慎地不写十二金钗以及其他姑娘媳妇们的脚。
