自从一九五三年英国 Metropolitan Vicktrs公司在英国 Hammtrsmith 医院安装第一台医用电子直线加速器以来,由于电子直线加速器具有能量范围宽、剂量率高、重量轻等一系列优点,迅速得到推广,目前已成为放射治疗的主要工具。它利用放射线(X 线、电子线)的生物效应和穿透作用,杀伤肿瘤细胞,达到对恶性肿瘤的治疗目的。再配合其它治疗方法,对恶性肿瘤有相当的疗效。由于上述原因,医用电子直线加速器在国际上已经占医用加速器的首位。
