INTRODUCTION The role of the thymus in the development and maintenance of the lymphatic system has long been predicted. Earlier studies on the physiological role of thymectomy have yielded numerous surprising but contradictory results. There are several main factors: (1) incomplete thymectomy; (2) lack of knowledge of species variation in thymus dissection; (3) lack of understanding of the genus differences in lymphatic system structure and function at both nascent and developing states .
