Wildlife is a valuable resource for the country and an important part of the natural environment. Since the State Council issued the “Order on Strictly Protecting Precious and Rare Wild Animals” in 1983, a great deal of work has been done all over the country and some achievements have been made. However, with the relaxation of leadership and management in the past year or two, there has been a steady stream of indiscriminate hunting of rare wildlife and damage to their habitat. In some areas, commercial and foreign trade units, in violation of state regulations, purchased a large number of wild animals and their products explicitly protected by the state.
