After briefly introducing how the gain compression factor is introduced into the rate equations, the effect of this factor on the steady state characteristics of the semiconductor laser is discussed. According to the size of the compression factor, the parameters that have been ignored in the approximate solution of the rate equations are reconsidered and the rate equations are solved analytically. The results show that the gain compression factor will only reduce the output power without changing the linearity and predict the possibility of the cavity carrier density being higher than the threshold density.
