As global economic development changes, the Singapore government has tied the petrochemical industry, electronics industry and life sciences into the country’s core manufacturing sector and will continue to expand its investment in the future. According to the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the value of Singapore’s domestic chemical industry, including petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and petroleum, was S $ 31.7 billion in 2000, an increase of 35% over the previous year.
