In this report, we study the focusing of electromagnetic waves through a stratidied biotic media. We formulate the electric field due to a focusing aperture current distribution via the propagating matrices and Green’s funciton. We investigate the 3dB spot size and focal point intensity due to the difference in dielectric constants. We find that (ⅰ) the 3dB spot size increases monotonically as ε_2/ε_1 decreases, resulting in defocusing; and (ⅱ) the electric field intensity at the focal point is the greatest when ε_2 is less than ε_1, not when ε_2=ε_1.
