The efficient functioning of the financial system is essential for maintaining the stability of the system,increasing the scale of financial intermediation and promoting development.Accordingly,the identification of factors affecting the profitability of the banking sector,which constitute more than90%of the financial system of our country,and to support for increasing efficiency will have a positive effect on the stable and normal functioning of the sector.
The purpose of this study is to determine how the macro-and micro-explanatory variables affect the return on assets,which expresses the profitability of the banking system.
In this study,panel data model analyze were used for the evaluation of the profitability of9commercial banks out of13banks operating in Mongolia,that full data set were available for the period of6years from2014to2019based on the balance sheet and income statement of each bank.The research was completed based on the empirical model developed by Demirguc-Kunt&Huizinga(1998)and on the extended empirical model from Fadzlan Sufian’s research work on banks of Cambodia,Thailand,South Korea,and Bangladesh.
The first chapter of the research work focuses on recent studies on factors affecting banking profitability.The second chapter offers current Mongolian economic and financial circumstances.The third chapter describes empirical model used in the study date,empirical methodology and empirical findings.Finally,fifth chapter outlines results,outcomes and some concluding remarks and recommendations.
