Honorific occupies a very important position in Japanese, and it also reflects a significantaspect in Japanese culture. As is known to us all, Japan is a country which attaches greatimportance to etiquette, and "politeness" is regarded as the basic way of social networking.Meanwhile, one of the external performance and the direct reflection is honorific. So to speak,honorific is necessary in a country attaching so great importance to the friendship such asJapan. Therefore, in order to grasp the honorific better, we must research the most importantfactor-honorific consciousness.With the development of history and the changing of social environment, the Japanesehonorific consciousness is changing gradually. Honorific consciousness changing can beseparated into three parts, the first one is absolute honorifics consciousness when it was usedto ancient emperor、god or people with higher classes; the second one is relative honorificscaused by modern equality consciousness; the last one is facing complicated social situationand relationships in modern society.As all kinds of scenes, conditions and psychological which caused by turning ofrelationships changes, Modern honorific consciousness changes a lot. The factor whichrespects the honorific consciousness obviously is falling down, however, the social factor isrising up recently. Social function plays a huge role in modern honorific of Japanese. Thepurpose of this paper is to analyze honorific consciousness in the view of social function ofmodern honorific. From this, we can understand and grasp the way and the psychology inusing modern honorific, which is very important.In chapter one, it was introduced in this article that the basic knowledge of modernJapanese honorific and the honorific consciousness, at the same time, the relationship betweenhonorific and the conscious was made clear up, from this, the meaning of researching thehonorific consciousness has appeared.Chapter two analyzed the social function of thehonorific and the relationship with honorific consciousness, meanwhile, it analyzed the socialorigin of how modern consciousness formed. Chapter three researched the changes of modernhonorific and the consciousness based on social function. Finally, I summed up the maincontent of this thesis, and put forward the problem in the future.
